A JEWISH FAMILY EDUCATION PROJECT Celebrating The Tastes, Aromas, Art & Music Of Our Heritage

Sukkot can be buiilt in a variety of ways. Every sukkah is a symbol to our generations of how our ancestors were housed in on their way our of Egypt.

A Sukkah must have either two, three, or four walls. A sukkah can be built in the shape of any of the Hebrew letters in its name (see the diagram below). It may be constructed of any material... as long as it is sufficiently strong to remain standing in "an average wind".

There is no maximum size for a Sukkah. However, the Talmud does state a minimum size, 7 x 7 tefachim (or large enough for an adult to be seated at a table). The minimum height for the schach is 10 tefachim (approximately 32").

Have a model/miniature sukkah building contest. There are many different materials that you can use.

• Collect twigs, leaves and bark. Supplement with other items from nature.

• For a sweet Sukkah assemble pretzel logs or graham crackers for the walls. Use Fluff, peanut butter or almond butter to hold the walls together. Twizzler Strings can make great schach. Fill in with a variety of sprinkles and/or other candies for decoration.
